04/10/2008: The evolving institutional balance among the EU Institutions and the role of the European Commission in the Greek case with Martin Selmayr

Argonauts,

Since the beginning of time, “everything flows”. The world keeps on changing. And first of all Europe: the ever young Lady; from the first EECs to the EU. And so on and so forth…Where are we now? Is the European Commission, the until recently leading EU Institution, meant to be subject to the axiom “everything flows”? Is the Council about to take the lead? Or is it too early for a radical change? Are adaptations to the EU machinery necessary for it to deliver to its Member States and internationally? No doubt, without a strong European administration no ambitious policies can be adopted and effectively implemented. The recent economic crisis is nothing but a proof of it. The EU finally delivered, yet it could have been more efficient. Hence, it is very timely that a new Secretary General of the EU Executive has, at this very geopolitically critical moment, taken over; a new start was indeed desperately needed. ARGO warmly welcomes Martin Selmayr in this key function and extends to him not only its best wishes for success but also its belief in his leadership. By way of contributing to the future of the EU, Argonauts are looking forward to hosting him on the 4 October 2018 and to interacting with him on his address “The evolving institutional balance among the EU Institutions and the role of the European Commission in the Greek case”.

With argonautic regards,

Spyros Pappas
